How do I join?

  • fill out the liability form and attach a copy of your insurance card
  • wear loose fitting clothes (if you have a uniform, wear it)
  • come to class 15 minutes early so we can get you registered

The first two classes are free but dues are expected by your third class.

Cost?

Membership dues are $50 per semester.  Uniforms and gear are not included in the price but can be purchased through the club at a discount.

What are dues used for?

Membership dues are used to purchase equipment and gear that the club uses during practices.  Dues also offset the cost of travel, competition, socials, seminars, and other events that the club participates in throughout the semester.

What do we practice?

We practice the Korean martial arts known as Tae Kwon Do.  ‘Tae’ being “to strike with foot”, ‘Kwon’ being “to strike with fist”, and ‘Do’ can mean “art” or “way”.  Roughly translated, the word Tae Kwon Do means “the way of the foot and fist”.

There are many different Taekwondo organizations and styles, and all are welcome.  To accomodate as many students as possible the club currently focuses on the two main organizational styles, the International Tae-Kwon Do Federation (ITF) and the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF).

What do we practice in class?

A qualified instructor runs classes consisting of cardio exercises, stretching exercises, strength training, basic techniques, forms, sparring, self-defense, breaking, self-discipline, tradition, and many other areas common to martial arts.

What about sparring?

Sparring competitors use padded armor and follow the rules governed by Olympics Games.  This is in preparation for intercollegiate competitions.  New students will not spar unless they have an understanding of basics techniques, physical and mental control, and they feel ready.
